Having been born in California but raised in Costa Rica, I got to have a firsthand experience in the cultural diversity that there is between both countries. After I attended college in the University of Costa Rica for a BA in Special Education I was able to do my internship in both public and private schools in Costa Rica and gained experience in the teaching methods that schools have, as well as the inclusiveness that they strive for. Because of this I believe there are various types of learners and it is our responsibility as teachers to keep students engaged and motivated to learn, as well as guide them in achieving academic success. I hope that my background with the diverse students that I have worked with will help me in creating an environment that students feel a part of, safe, welcomed and supported.
